New Creations and Chit Chat
The brilliance and inventiveness that comes out of Finland (Suomi) is vastly overlooked.
The Finns have given us the electric sail (are you positive?), the heartrate monitor (be still my beating heart), Fiskars scissors (we all use them), the sauna (is it hot in here?), Angry Birds (admit it…you still play), SMS/texting (how did we function before?), ice skates…which in turn gave us hockey (the perfect sport) just to name a few.
The one ALL of us know though is Nokia phones (the end of the world will not destroy those things), but do you know anything about the actual company?
Nokian started as a paper and pulp mill in 1865 and its name derives from the nearby Nokianvirta River. Before they became an electronics giant, they were best recognised for their rubber boots. No surprise there was a natural progression to tires in 1932.
Nokian Tyres are known for their “Winter Tyres” and are the only manufacturer in the world who have their own permanent winter tire testing facility (cool, right? Or in this case, cold…brrrr). We like big tires and we cannot lie! Baby got bounce!
